Captain Jon Brown spent more than forty years in commercial shipping and on the bridges of ships around the world, beginning his seafaring career at just seventeen years of age. After gaining his Master’s Certificate at the age of twenty seven and serving as a Ship’s Master early in his career, Jon went on to spend thirty years as a Marine Pilot in Western Australia, guiding ships safely through the ports of Fremantle, Dampier, Perth and Bunbury.

A natural storyteller with a deep love of maritime history, Jon combines humour, drama, humanity and first hand experience, to reveal the fascinating world behind the people, ships and ports that have shaped our relationship with the sea. His presentations are not technical lectures, but engaging and accessible stories that transport audiences beyond the passenger decks into a world few people ever have the opportunity to experience.

Jon’s journey into cruise enrichment developed naturally through his own love of cruising. Over the years, conversations with fellow passengers about his unusual career as a Marine Pilot often continued long after dinner, with many suggesting his
stories deserved a wider audience. Those conversations inspired him to create a portfolio of presentations that bring to life the hidden stories of the sea…from remarkable people and extraordinary events, to the fascinating ports and places
visited during a voyage.
